Thank you

Thank you… for everything

For the time you knew all was not right

Just by looking at me

For the times that you tried your best

To turn that frown into a smile

For the time you assured me

That you’ll always be there

For all the times you said no

Just to protect me

For the times you wiped my tears

And for the times you let them flow freely

For every ‘I love you’

Despite what I did

For every ‘I care’

When I least expected it

For every ‘I’m here for you’

Even when you were miles away

For all you’ve done

I just want to say ‘thank you’

The world always reminds you

Either in a humane or an inhumane way

That kid

Who goes to school

And is treated like an outcast

Always reminded

With or without words

That they not like the rest

And the day that they go out of their way to fit in

Applying make up, getting new clothes

The kid is still brought down

The message clear

You are not like ‘the rest’

The girl with the hijab

She walks around with it

People stare awkwardly

After an attack

Even if it is miles away

Or even when there hasn’t been one

People try to get away from her

She climbs the bus

Everyone alights

People don’t even want ta ask her simple questions

Like where she’s from

Or who she is

Or even what she likes

When they do

They make assumptions

Just to remind her ‘who she is’

That kid

Going of to college

Not to do what they’ve always dreamt of

They are going to do what the family wants them to do

The family has a reputation

Which the child shouldn’t ruin

They should be lucky that they have tuition fees

They shouldn’t forget that the family has a reputation

… and a legacy to keep

The rebellious one

Always ruining things

Many people have given up on them already

Good thing there will always be that one person who cares

To remind them that they can be better

Not in a way that society wants him/her to be

… but in their own unique way

With all the motivational talks

All the encouragement given everyday

All the times that we are told to be proud of ourelves

Someone will always want to put you in your place

That’s why we have the

‘You are too fat’

‘You are too ugly’

‘You’ll never make it’

‘You don’t have what it takes’

Being told to someone day in day out

Just to remind someone of ‘who they are’

Just to give them a clue of ‘who they should be’

The  few lucky ones

Are those who get to be better each day

Regardless of what message people try to pass

Why ask questions

That you’ll never have answers to

Why believe in someone

That never believes in themselves

Why keep on looking

For that that you’ve never found

Why try to love someone

That refuses to be loved

Why try to change someone

That never wants to be changed

Why take the path

That looks like it will lead to nowhere

Why refuse to give up

When everybody else has

Why keep up a fight

When you don’t look like you’ll win

Why take the dark path

When everyone else is running away from it

It’s simply because you believe

Simply because you have hope

It was perfect

Yet I was too blind to see that

I had to push away

I completely let go

When I had realized all that I had lost

It was too late to get it back

If I could I’ve been more keen

I could have seen the damage that I was making

If I could have believed in myself more

I would never have let go

Now it’s just the past

A memory that is with me every single day

Maybe one day we’ll look past the differences

Maybe one day we’ll forgive each other

But for now

It’s just a lesson learnt

It’s just a bad feeling

That I’m learning to live with

Trying to convince yourself

That everything is perfect

Yet you see pieces of you falling apart

Day after day

You tell yourself everything is alright

It will be better tomorrow

When tomorrow comes

You are still faking smiles

Then saving the tears for the lonely nights

Living a lie

Everyone seems to envy you

So you try to keep it all together

They ask what’s the secret

You always have answers made up in your head

You can’t say that it’s all an act

So hurt inside

All you want is happiness

And not a life that is nothing but an illusion

The past murder of Serah Aruwa caused public outrage and shock, just as the hit and run murder a while back of Mercy Keino. Both were engaging in activities most students do out campus which seem harmless. Serah was going for a date with a schoolmate and Mercy had gone for a party. Such incidents are also reported in other parts of the world and here are a few of a million stories, sadly true ones.

The Makerere University student was found naked and sadly dead in her room. She had supposedly been strangled and had bruises around her neck. The main murder suspect was Hillary Oketch, her boyfriend.

The Yale doctorate student disappeared days before her wedding day and her dead body was discovered on her wedding day in the basement of the Yale Research Building. She was placed into the wall upside down and her bra was pushed upwards towards her head, and her panties were pulled down around her ankles. The murderer was Raymond Jay Clark, a lab technician at Yale.

Mazul was found dead place inside a cupboard. Mazur, who was studying International Relations, had gone to Evans-Loude’s home for drinks. After the killing, the politics, philosophy and economics student telephoned others to say he had a “stiff” in his house and asking for help in getting rid of it. Evans-Loude claimed Mazur attacked him but friends and family said he was a hard-working student who was never aggressive. Evans-Loude, the son of teacher parents from Barnstaple, Devon, had wept during his trial saying: “I beat him to death – of course I was not in control. I lost it.”

lin and luka

Left is 33-year-old international student Lin Jun from Wuhan. Right is 29-year-old Canadian murderer Luka Magnotta.

Luka, a pornographic male actor, is believed to have sexually assaulted Lin Jun and even uploaded the video. He even recorded the dismembering of the body and mailed a hand and foot of the victim to the Conservative Party and Liberal Party headquarters in Canada. The video shows him eating some of the victim’s tissue!!!

The gunman, Huan Yun Xiang, shot his teacher and classmates killing two and injuring five. He was found not guilty and transferred to a psychiatric hospital.

1. Make sure you know someone very well before associating with them.

2. Walk in groups , especially at night.

3. Report any suspicious behavior.

Always knows when to walk away.

5. If your conscious is telling you not to do something TRUST IT and DON’T DO IT . Serah Aruwa had a hunch and that is why she left details of the person she was going out with on that fateful day.

I’ve heard of a few cases where students have studied free by forging bank slips and studying free of charge. In some cases it goes unnoticed or it just cannot be proved.

This is a sad example. Good boy hits on bad girl, girl turns him down. The girl is famous for sleeping around and on a drunken escapade she gets gang raped and unfortunately infected with HIV/AIDS. She embarks on a revenge mass infection mission sleeping with anyone willing and writes down their names. Later she remembers the good boy she turned down approaches him and is turned down. Days later she spikes the dudes drink and rapes him. Having known about her behavior he reportedly commits suicide as his body is never found and he is never seen again.

The mass infections in our campuses are just depressing although there has been no prove if they are true or not. Nonetheless, they seem to be on the decline.

Sexual relations between lectures and students are a contemporary issue in our universities. Well a female student in a certain university is believed to have recorded her escapades with her lecturer which did rounds of the internet.

Unfortunately there many sex tape of unsuspecting victims doing rounds in the internet. And yeah, in this era cameras come in all shapes and sizes.

Well word on the street is that politics is a dirty game, even if you are just a certain leader in a university. They have experienced everything from rooms being looted, death threats and physical forms of injury. Advice…  look before you leap because the grass is not always greener on the other side.

University strikes are often rowdy and may lead to deaths in extreme cases.

University strikes are often rowdy and may lead to deaths in extreme cases.

Strike scenario in a university. Let the picture do the talking.

While in campus you have to be on the lookout as a student. Every year there is unfortunately a story of an unfortunate victim murdered by someone close or distant.

Girls love fashion, boys love gadgets, and girls, hope that these are not stereotypes. Students use various ways to hustle. Some are bad some are good. From theft, utilizing talent, prostitution, finding a job, drug dealing among other things…at the end of the day for a huge number of students it’s all about the money…get rich or die trying!!!!

After having fun for a whole semester and forgetting about exams…cheating becomes a priority for many students. From the old school ‘mwakenya’ (summarized notes on small pieces of paper) to the modern era Google. You can have someone sit the exam for you, exchange papers while doing exams. Some prefer sexually transmitted grades. Alternatively you can take an extra paper, throw it out the window and have someone do it for you in the library or have a ‘mad’ man sing out the answers in your vernacular.
